In 2014, the Tesio Stakes was sponsored by Eliza Park. Previously, Inglis had sponsored the event.
Established in 1990, the Tesio Stakes was originally classified as a Listed level event but gained Group 3 status in 1993 and has maintained this ever since.
Runners often come into the Tesio Stakes on the back of other mares-only events including the Group 3 How Now Stakes and the Group 2 Rose Of Kingston Stakes.

The Tesio Stakes often serves as a lead-up event to more prestigious races later in the spring and races that may be targeted include the Group 1 Myer Classic, the Group 2 Matriarch Stakes and the Group 1 Emirates Stakes.
Over the years, the Tesio Stakes has been known variously as the BMW Australia Stakes, Dalgety Breeders’ Plate, BMW Plate, Eliza Park International Stakes, Trojan Hand Tools Stakes and Inglis Mile. Future name changes are likely as the race attracts different sponsors.
